Health and Safety Consultant

Kelvin is passionate about passing on his knowledge and experience to help keep people safe on the job so they can go home to their families at the end of their work day.

Kelvin has extensive experience in the health and safety sector, having previously worked as a Health Safety and Environmental Advisor for Site Safe in the Southern Region of New Zealand. He has a particularly detailed knowledge of the construction sector and its health and safety and environmental requirements, as well as experience of health and safety across a range of other industries such as mining, manufacturing and governmental agencies.

Kelvin began his career in the 1970s, completing a carpentry apprenticeship. He has since worked in the construction industry here and in Australia, both as a business owner and a manager. In these roles, Kelvin was responsible for preparing health and safety management plans, carrying out health and safety inductions and site audits, as well as supervising asbestos removal and completing pool safety inspections.

In addition to his in depth knowledge of health and safety in the construction industry, Kelvin has 10 years’ experience as a Police Officer with the New Zealand Police and 10 years’ experience as a Corrections Officer. These roles have given Kelvin a strong understanding of health and safety in potentially dangerous conflict situations.

As a health and safety specialist, Kelvin has significant experience developing and implementing health and safety management systems, providing health and safety training and carrying out investigations into work-related incidents.

Kelvin holds Technical member status of the New Zealand Institute of Safety Management (NZISM). To gain this accreditation, an individual health and safety practitioner’s skills, experience, knowledge and professionalism must be verified against set criteria. All professional members must also abide by the NZISM’s code of ethics.

Kelvin has an array of relevant qualifications including a Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (Queensland) and Level IV certificates in Training and Assessment and in Construction. He has also completed training in a variety of important areas such as asbestos removal, working in confined spaces and working at heights. Kelvin is a Licensed Building Practitioner.
